Printed Panama Chock Receives DNV Certification

Recently, Keppel Technology & Innovation (KTI) obtained the DNV - GL certification for its 3D - printed deck - type Panama chock (SWL150 Ton). This component, used in the non - classed maritime sector, is the world's largest 3D - printed ship - fitting.

The Panama chock, a large marine - use fitting for towing and mooring, is traditionally made by casting and welded to the ship's hull. KTI's partner, AML3D from Australia, made this part using its Wire Additive Manufacturing (WAM) process with ER70S - 6 wire of medium - strength structural steel grade.

Before DNV's verification, KTI, together with the end - user Keppel O&M and technical partner AML3D, conducted extensive research, production, and testing. The component met all the main test requirements in KTI's project material specification. DNV Singapore Laboratory and Marinelift Testing & Supply Pte Ltd. Singapore also tested the fitting. Mechanical and non - destructive tests were carried out, and the results matched those of established cast marine - grade materials. Finally, the Panama chock passed the certification, indicating the potential of additive manufacturing in improving shipyard - operation efficiency.
Our company New maritime provided 36pcs Panama chock for Abu Dhabi Ship Building with BV certificate at last week.
