Types of ship doors

Watertight door: an entrance and exit installed on the watertight bulkhead below the deck of a ship, mainly used to prevent the hull from being submerged in water when it breaks. The types of watertight doors include sliding, hinged, and rolling. Sliding watertight doors can be divided into vertical and horizontal types according to their structure, and can be operated manually or by power.

Port: A loading or daily access door located on the side of the ship below the freeboard deck or within the enclosed superstructure above the freeboard deck, behind the collision bulkhead. The portholes below the freeboard deck should be watertight, while those above the freeboard deck should be weatherproof. There are two commonly used types of wind and rain tight portholes: double leaf outward opening portholes and four leaf outward opening portholes.

Wind and rain tight door: a closing device installed above the freeboard deck to seal the entrances and exits of the superstructure, deck room, engine room shed, and elevators, mainly used to prevent wind and rain from entering.

Armored door: a door used on the deck of a ship, usually installed inside or outside the cabin, for entering and exiting personnel, cargo, or equipment, and can also be used to control air circulation.

Hatch door: used as an entrance and exit in the cargo hold of a ship, mainly for the loading and unloading of goods and the entry and exit of personnel.

The material and structural characteristics of ship doors: Ship doors can be divided into steel doors, stainless steel doors, aluminum doors, fiberglass doors, and wooden doors according to their main materials. According to the corner shape of the door, it can be divided into square corner doors and circular corner doors. Steel weathertight doors must be equipped with boosters, and all reinforcing ribs of steel weathertight doors should be continuously and completely welded on both sides.

The purpose and importance of ship doors: Ship doors are not only used for personnel access and cargo loading and unloading, but also play a role in controlling air circulation, preventing water immersion and wind and rain intrusion. They play a crucial role in the safety and normal operation of ships.
