Product Introduction

A fiberglass bottom inflatable boat is a type of rigid inflatable boat (RIB) that features a molded fiberglass (GRP - Glass Reinforced Plastic) hull combined with inflatable side tubes. This hybrid construction offers exceptional durability, hydrodynamic performance, and lightweight portability, making it one of the most popular designs in both recreational and professional maritime applications.

There are typically four components of fiberglass bottom inflatable boat:

Hull (bottom): made from marine-grade fiberglass, shaped for efficient cutting through water. Common hull types include deep-V, modified V or flat-bottom.

Inflatable tubes (sponsons): made from Hypalon (CSM) or PVC. Divided into multiple air chambers for buoyancy and safety.

Deck: often non-slip fiberglass with integrated storage, seating, and self-draining design.

Transom: fiberglass-reinforced transom for outboard motors, with options for single or twin engine setups.

Advantage

  1. Fiberglass provides strength while inflatables reduce weight, it is strong + lightweight
  2. Deep-V hull offers great stability in rough waters and provides stable ride
  3. It is high load capacity, which is ideal for gear, passengers, or rescue ops
  4. Low maintenance: fiberglass is easy to clean and corrosion-resistant
  5. Allows high speeds and quick acceleration (supports larger motors)
  6. Unsinkable design: even if hull is compromised, tubes provide flotation

Considerations

  1. Tube material (Hypalon lasts longer than PVC, especially in hot climates)
  2. Storage space: cannot deflate like a full inflatable
  3. Fiberglass makes RIBs heavier
  4. Heavier and bulkier than fully soft inflatables when disassembled
