Boat Stern Tube
The Boat Stern Tube is a critical component in the ship propulsion system. The main function of the Boat Stern Tube is to provide stable support for the propeller shaft through the tail shaft tube, ensuring the alignment and stability of the shaft system during rotation; Prevent seawater from entering the interior of the hull from the stern (water tightness), while avoiding lubricating oil leakage (oil tightness); Reduce the frictional resistance during shaft rotation through bearings.
Marine Stern Tube consists of the stern shaft tube housing (a metal casting, often bronze or stainless steel, that is fixed in the hull), FWD bearing, AFT bearing, Forward Seal, Aft Seal, and lubrication system (water-lubricated or oil-lubricated).
Maintenance Tips:
Regularly (weekly or monthly as per usage frequency) inspect the shaft alignment and bearing wear.
Check for leaks around seals.
Maintain the lubrication, whether water or oil.
Replace cutless bearings when worn.
